I have recently restarted having limited office hours in Corning, NY. I see the rest of my clients using teletherapy. I provide services to clients throughout New York State (Southern Tier, Finger Lakes Region, New York City, Central New York, etc).

Clients tell me that teletherapy is extremely convenient, allowing them to have counseling sessions from the privacy of their own home or office. Studies also show that teletherapy is equally effective to in-person counseling. Teletherapy sessions are conducted on a secure, HIPAA compliant video platform. You can have an opportunity to check out what it is like during a free 15 minute video consult.

My practice is private pay and is considered "out of network" by insurance companies. Many insurance companies will reimburse clients for a portion of the cost. I provide a "superbill" to clients that they can submit to their insurance company for reimbursement if they have "out of network" coverage.

That being said, there are some benefits to not submitting for reimbursement. Some people choose not to involve their insurance company in their mental health and wellness. I'd be happy to discuss this with you during a free consult.

If interested in reimbursement, I recommend that clients contact their insurance company prior to 1st session to find out:

  • If you have "out of network" coverage,

  • The reimbursement rate,

  • If you have a deductible for "out of network" providers, and

  • How to submit the claim.

Sometimes people will tell me that they tried counseling before but they didn't see an improvement. Often they will go on to tell me that they hadn't really invested in the process.

Counseling is not a spectator sport! It really isn't. I am a partner, a guide, a supporter; sometimes I'm a teacher. I do not have all the answers for you. No therapist does. We will find the answers together. You get out of counseling what you put into it.  In my experience, the clients that tend to have the most positive results display the following behaviors.

  • Make their appointments a priority and come at least every 2 weeks

  • Come to sessions with topics, successes, and challenges they want to discuss.

  • Follow up on the ideas and suggestions that we discuss in sessions.

  • Read books and listen to podcasts on the issues they are working on.
